Denver Eater | Jax, Cuba Cuba, and Udi’s to Open in City Set Project

CitySetUdi’s, Jax Fish House, a version of Cuba Cuba, and a beer garden are coming to Glendale, all in the same development, City Set development set to open its doors with these attractions and more in the summer of 2013.

Udi’s, which already owns and operates several restaurants in the Denver metro area will open a new outpost, joining a fourth location of Jax Fish House. Cuba Cuba Sandwicheria, a casual sandwich-centric version of the Golden Triangle restaurant, will add some ethic flair to the offerings and World of Beers, a beer garden concept, will provide an additional draw.

The City of Glendale’s business-friendly environment has been credited by some of Eater’s sources for securing this attractive line-up of eateries. The entire site will likely be able to capitalize on the relatively new Colorado open container law, something not currently possible in the City of Denver.

The Wall Street Journal | Real-Estate Firms Get a Handle on Twitter

NY-CB200A_NYCOM_G_20121209184200The commercial real-estate industry is notorious for being slow to embrace new technology. Social networking is no exception.

But that is finally beginning to change. Some top firms are beefing up their activity on sites like Twitter and LinkedIn, and some brokers say they are doing deals thanks to leads generated by the sites.

As recently as 2010, four years after the launch of Twitter, many brokers didn’t even know what the service was.

“People don’t understand it,” confessed Ron Houghtaling, CBRE Group Inc.’s CBG +1.74% head of social media, at a 2010 technology conference.

Today, CBRE leads the Twitter pack among major firms with more than 26,000 followers. Meanwhile Jones Lang LaSalle, JLL +0.85% is second with 16,048 and has a four-person social-media team that also manages accounts on Facebook, FB -1.39% LinkedIn and other sites.

Denver Business Journal | Shop Watch: Justin Timberlake-founded BBQ spot opening in LoDo in January

20090129_soho_250x250Southern Hospitality, a barbecue restaurant concept co-created by Justin Timberlake, is planning a January 2013 opening for its first location outside New York, in Denver’s LoDo.

The eatery will be just three blocks from Coors Field in the 116-year-old St. Elmo Hotel on the corner of 17th and Blake streets.

Southern Hospitality Development Corp. (OTCQB: RIBS), developer of the Memphis-style barbeque restaurants, said Tuesday that construction continues on the new restaurant, which first was set to open in October.

“Our expansion into downtown Denver is an important milestone for Southern Hospitality,” said CEO Steve Cominsky. “The Southern Hospitality concept is one we believe will resonate well here. LoDo is certain to be a great market for us.”

The LoDo restaurant is the first of 10 slated for development by the company in key markets across the U.S. over the next three to five years.

Denver Business Journal | E-470 seeks to add retail to highway’s unused toll plazas

01a.e4701 900The E-470 Public Highway Authority is looking into converting its vacant toll plazas into retail businesses such as gas stations, restaurants and convenience stores.

Until June 2009, drivers stopped and paid their tolls at the plazas as they drove along the 47-mile route that arcs around the east side of metro Denver.

But then the tollway converted to a cashless, electronic tolling system, and the five toll plazas have been standing empty ever since.

The authority plans to issue an RFP to develop the plazas in the first quarter of 2013.

evolution_juiceCliff Burrows, president, Starbucks Americas and U.S., announces that his region plans to add more than 3,000 net new stores, and renovate thousands more stores, over the next five years.
